OUR APPOACH
Your aura is as unique as you are, and we honor that in everything we do. When you take that courageous first step and connect with our team, we begin with a thoughtful psychosocial assessment to truly understand you and your needs. From there, we collaborate with you to create a personalized plan that supports your healing and growth. Drawing from a range of therapeutic modalities, we walk alongside you every step of the way—gently guiding, supporting, and empowering you to strengthen your presence and nurture your whole self.

Motivational Interviewing
Motivational interviewing is all about goals! Our therapists will use a goal-oriented approach to help clients identify what changes they wish to make in their life to bring about positive change for themselves and their families.
“MI is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.” (Miller & Rollnick, 2013, p. 29)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in basic terms is the understanding that our thoughts, feelings and behaviours are all connected, and that when we can change the way we think about a situation, we are then able to change how we feel and behave in accordance with that situation. Judith S. Beck explains it as; “In a nutshell the cognitive model proposes that dysfunctional thinking (which influences the patient’s mood and behaviour) is common to all psychological disturbances. When people learn to evaluate their thinking in a more realistic and adaptive way, they experience improvement in their emotional state.” (Beck, Judith S. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy Basics and Beyond). CBT is the leading therapeutic modality for the treatment of depression and anxiety. At Aura we use a variety of interventions to help individuals address their unhelpful thinking so their quality of life improves.

Emotionally Focused Therapy
EFT is a cutting edge modality that is primarily used to support couples. It was developed by Dr. Susan Johnson who among many accolades is Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychology at the University of Ottawa. She also created and runs the EFT Institute in Ottawa where our lead therapist, Jamie-Lynn Sluman, had the pleasure of completing the Level E- An ICEEFT-endorsed EFT Externship.
This intervention style is heavily focused on connecting with our emotions and was created using the science of adult attachment theory as it’s basis.

Single Session Therapy
This modality focuses on the client’s greatest hopes for a single session. Once this has been identified, the therapist will work with the client to identify any changes the client would like to make to achieve their greatest hope, and strategies for how to get themselves there.
